…BUT THE OLDER I GROW THE MORE I APPRECIATE POTATOES…

[response to “A little bit of other things, or basketball”]

CASKET CALL

calamity won’t sound like this
careful cadence
cacophony cajoled into crypts
corpses encroaching from stage left
on our karaoke concert
Kelly Clarkson, Eric Clapton,
classic Queen
God rest ’em
carried (or coaxed?),

curiosity’s curse,
from cat to cradle
increasingly cognizant
and crazier
’cause canaries
are caught in our throats
choking on their cloying

cries cease

we croak
like the cord of a curtain
tension
and release
